Sweetheart, Linda M. "Sequence of Love." By Linda-Marie SweetHeart. N.p., 5 May 12. Web. 12 Oct. 2014. <http://www.poetrysoup.com/poems_poets/poem_detail.aspx?ID=389577>.
Love possesses many faces
occurring in romantic places
culminated by embraces ...
Love illuminates the soul
intertwining halves to whole
fulfilling a human, earthly role ...
Love radiates rare quality
increasing to a sweet degree
of everlasting ecstasy ...
Love invades enchantingly
perhaps, appears repeatedly,
but only once, comes sacredly ... eventually ...
The rhyme scheme is AAA BBB CCC CCC.
The name of the piece is "Sequence of Love," and it attempts to capture the stages through which two people's emotions for each other progress. It starts with a general view of love and within whom and where it takes place. The second stanza focuses on love's effect on two people, and its tendency to unite those who should be together, and the third stanza continues this evaluation, but focuses more on the psychological effects. Lastly, the fourth stanza examines love's existence and appearance. The rhyme scheme is heavily intertwined with the purpose of the piece, as each stanza has a different rhyme scheme (excluding the last two) represents a new stage of love. However, I wouldn't say that the meaning of the poem is too influenced by the scheme--rather, it emphasizes the nature of love to occur in stages rather than just one spontaneous experience.
